Maintenance tips

solid silver

silver

Silver is a precious metal that will naturally tarnish over time when in contact with air and humidity. The time that a piece of jewelery will take to tarnish depends on several other elements, such as the acidity of the skin of the person wearing it.

To slow down the oxidation process, when you are not wearing your jewelry, we recommend storing it in closed boxes or bags and keeping it away from light. Also avoid contact of your jewel with water; if it gets wet, dry it carefully, not forgetting the inside of the ring. Also remember to take them off when you go to the pool. This is because chlorine quickly damages silver.

To remove oxidation and restore all the natural shine of your silver jewellery, we invite you to practice occasional cleaning with a small chamois cloth , a very soft cloth impregnated with a special cleaner, which you will find on this page.

In addition, other small maintenance gestures are possible. Here are a few :

  •  Lemon : gently rub your silver jewelry using a soft toothbrush that you have soaked in lemon juice. Then polish with your chamoisine.
  •  Baking soda : wet your toothbrush and sprinkle it with a few pinches of baking soda. Gently rub your jewellery, rinse it and dry it.
  •  White vinegar : soak your silver jewelry in a glass filled with white vinegar for 2 hours. Rinse them and dry them with your chamoisine.
  •  Beer : Soak your jewelery in a bowl of beer overnight, then rinse and polish it with your cloth.
  •  Toothpaste : put a little toothpaste on a soft toothbrush and gently rub your jewelry before rinsing them with cold water, then wipe them with your chamoisine.
  •  Cold ashes : brush your silver jewelery with ashes then rub them with your cloth.
  •  Salt (this trick is only suitable for very oxidized jewelry!): pour salt on the jewelry that you have previously placed on a sheet of aluminum foil. Close the paper and immerse it in boiling water for 30 seconds. Wipe, polish, and your jewelry is like new!

The gold plated

gold plate

Like silver, 18k gold plating can tarnish due to many factors. As a first precaution, therefore, remember to remove your gold-plated jewelry before taking your shower, bathing, washing dishes or doing DIY. Also be careful not to expose them directly to chemical products such as solvents or perfumes.

To shine your gold-plated medallions and chains, rub them regularly with a small chamois .

In addition to this gentle gesture, you can occasionally use one of our little tips:

  •  Ammonia : pour an equal amount of water and ammonia into a bowl. Soak a soft toothbrush and gently brush your jewelry, then wipe it with your cloth.
  •  Toothpaste : put a little toothpaste on a soft toothbrush and gently rub your jewelry before rinsing them with cold water, then wipe them with your chamoisine.
